We were a group of 21 members from Bangalore and visited Gorukana on the 16th of Sep 2011. The staff were very courteous. Rooms clean and the entire resort was well maintained. A great satisfaction is that all profits from the resort go towards welfare of the Soligas. Visiting VGKK and the Podu of the soligas was a great experience. The Soliga cultural performance in the evening was unique in its own way. It was a great holiday for all of us in this serine resort. Wishing Dr. Sudarshan and his team all success in future endeavors.

BR Hills is a beautiful range of mountains close to Bangalore city about 175 kms, thru Kanakapura Road.
We happened to know about Gorukana Resort from their website. We travelled end of July/beginning of Aug during the rainy season. Fortunately there was no rains for those 3 days. Accommodation was good and clean. The resort is located amidst lot of trees with a pond making it look very natural, eventhough the approach to the resort about 100mts or so from the main road was horrible. The food was good all through and the service given by the manager Mr. Taj and all the staff was very good.
We were interested in wildlife, the Head Naturalist Mr. Jadeyaswamy and his assistant Jadeya (from the Soliga tribe) did their best to spot more wildlife.
The best sighting we made was on K.Gudi road, were we saw Barking Deer, Sambar Deer, Wild Dogs (a pack of 11), Sloth Bears, Crested Serpent Eagle, Brown Fish Owl, Black faced Langoor, etc., On the B R Hills Road, we sighted Gaur (Indian Bison), Elephants at a close range. We also saw so many birds during our visit.
It was really an amazing trip and to be remembered and revisited. We thank the resort staff.

Upon stumbling on the website of Gorukana, I made enquiries and some of them recommended me to this Magnificent place. I must admit it, this was one trip, I was so excited and looking forward to.
We had made reservations & group of 10 started from Bangalore and drove down. I must admit I was pretty surprised to see that the roads, right till Gorukana is very good. We just had to take a 1/2 detour, due to some repair work. Else, it was hassle free, traffic free and greenery through out. 3.5 hours with couple of breaks should get you there.
Upon reaching there, every review that said the staff were courteous, was true. It did not have any signs of commercial feeling and we were welcomed with a big smile and warmth. We were shown our cottages & they are Beautiful, well planned and gives you the feeling of just being to yourself, inbetween an evergreen forest. Our Guide was Jedaiah, a local Soliga tribal, who has been trained in hospitality, courteousness & most importantly, to speak an understand basic english. Isnt that commendable (mainly thanks to Dr Sudharshan & his vision, his team).
Food is very good (though they are served thru cheffing dishes, they can get a bit cold sooner - coz of the atmosphere and surroundings). No complaints. Service is quick. The cultural programmes, the enthusiasm of the participants (locals) is heart warming. We coundn't do bonfire as it was raining.
I recommend everyone try the safari guided by your guide. Each group gets a dedicated guide, who will run errands and show you around. We spotted a Bison, which was a fully grown male and easily could've toppled our car with its might head and horns. Wild boar, barking deer, some close to extinct birds.
I can go on and on....but this place is highly recommended and I am sure to go back again. I would request people who might go there in future, to maintain cleanliness and try to maintain it's charm and support the cause, Dr Sudarshan and his team have started.
